Overnight at The Grand Dragon Ladakh.

Ladakh Hall of Fame: The Hall of Fame is a glorious museum constructed by the Indian Army. It is worth a visit for every citizen. You can see the memorabilia, eminent defense personalities with biographies, images and weapons used during the Kargil and other key strategic battles fought in Ladakh. And belongings of the enemy soldiers found at war site. All the martyr and the gallantry awards. Here’s something that you will be proud of our defense personnel who sacrificed themselves so that we could live in peace.

Magnetic Hill: Defying the Law of gravity. This place is close to the Gurudwara Shri Patthar Sahib. It has been noticed that when a vehicle is parked on neutral gear on this metallic road the vehicle slides up-hill that’s the Believe it or not of Ladakh!

Monastery tour

Hemis Gompa: 45 km from Leh Hemis Monastery is a monastery (gompa) of the Drukpa Lineage. The monastery was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal. Hemis Monastery has a beautiful architecture, which is quite interesting to witness.

One can pay homage to the two large statues of Lord Buddha and Guru Rimpoche. Also, there is a museum that exhibits a large collection of Buddhist relics and several ancient items that suggest there existed a rich culture here.

Thiksey Gompa: 19 Kms from Leh, spectacularly sited, Thiksey is one of the largest and architecturally most impressive Gompas. There are several temples in this Gompas, containing images, stupas and wall paintings of Buddha, which are exquisite.

Shey Palace and Gompa: Situated on a hillock 15 Kms upstream from Leh, it was once the residence of the royal family. According to tradition, it was the seat of power of the pre-Tibetan kinds. A 7.5 mts high copper statue of Buddha, plated with gold and the largest of its kind, is installed here.

Nubra Valley, visit Turtuk village along the LOC. Pretty village. Overnight camp Turtuk Holliday camp Turtuk is the northernmost village of India situated in the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir located in the Nubra tehsil, 205 km from the district headquarter Leh, on the banks of the Shayok River.

It is the only Balti region under the Indian administration and was under Pakistan's occupation until 1971, after which India gained control over this strategic area. Geographically, Turtuk lies in the Baltistan Region and is one among four such villages in India, the other three being Tyakshi, Chalunkha and Thang in habitanted by Muslims. The residents of Turtuk and its adjoining villages speak Balti language along with Ladakhi and Urdu. Turtuk is the last outpost of India at Thang after which Pakistan occupied Gilgit-Baltistan begins. Turtuk is one of the gateways to the Siachen Glacier. Turtuk is very much famous for the availability of different varieties of fruits especially apricots.

Then set out on a comfortable 3 – 4 hour drive through the amazing Ladakhi landscape to some of the most popular tourist destinations in the region: Sindhu Ghat, Shey, Thiksey and Hemis. After a day spent exploring the meditative beauty of these spiritual centres, return to the heavenly comfort of the hotel for the night.

Fast Fact: Sindhu Ghat. A peaceful ghat on the banks of one the seven most sacred rivers in India, the Sindhu (Indus) originates near the Mansarovar Lake and Mt. Kailash in Tibet and enters India through the Leh Valley before it flows through to Pakistan.

Shey Palace and Monastery. Once the summer capital of Ladakh, Shey dates back to the 17th Century. With its vibrant coloured murals and giant gilded statue of a seated Shakyamuni Buddha, this monastery is a one of the major attractions of Ladakh.

Thiksey Monastery. The largest monastery in central Ladakh district, Thiksey is famed for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet and amazing views of the many picturesque villages it overlooks all around.

​​Hemis Monastery. The largest and the most important of all monasteries in Ladakh, this Tibetan Buddhist monastery was re-established in 1672 by King Sengge Namgyal. It is home to the annual Hemis festival, a landmark event in the Ladakhi calendar, when the little town comes alive with a celebration of good over evil with unique masked dances, cultural events and a colourful fun fair.

Leh – Lamayuru – Alchi

After an early breakfast, set out for another day of fabulous sightseeing that begins with a scenic drive in the direction of Kargil. Soon, you will find yourself mesmerised by the beauty of the moonscapes of Lamayuru, and the sheer majesty of its monastery. En route you can also choose to spend time at the amazing Alchi Monastery, a monastic complex with monuments and scriptures dating as far back as 10th Century.

After exploring the rich ancient culture of Ladakh all day, head back towards Leh. Spend the night in the cottages of the Uley Ethnic Resort or The Apricot Tree-Nurla Hotel.

Sham Valley – Nimmu – Magnetic Hill – Likir Monastery – Leh

Wake up to the amazing landscape of the Sham Valley. After a delicious breakfast, set out towards Leh making many a stop at special attractions along the way like the amazing confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers at Nimmu, the natural marvel of Magnetic Hill, the Likir Monastery, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and the Hall of Fame.

At the end of an exhilarating day, come home to the warmth and hospitality of The Grand Dragon Ladakh.

Fast Fact: Nimmu. This is where the two mighty rivers, the Zanskar and Indus rivers meet and flow on as Indus, a popular spot for rafting. Amazingly the water of the Indus is brown in the winters and blue in the summer, while Zanskar is blue-green in the winters and muddy brown ripples in the summer.

Magnetic Hill. A gravity hill about 32 kms from Leh, believed to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull cars and force aircrafts to increase their altitude in order to escape magnetic interference. Likir Monastery. A Buddhist monastery just 52 kms west of Leh, perched atop a little hill by the Indus river, Likir is a repository of ancient artifacts: manuscripts, Thangka paintings, costumes and earthen pots. And on its roof, is a 75 ft. high gilded statue of the Maitreya Buddha!

Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. A beautiful Gurudwara built in 1517 to commemorate the visit of the founder of the Sikh faith, Guru Nanak to Ladakh. Hall of Fame. The impeccable museum that commemorates the army’s role in Ladakh – from relief to high-altitude battles fought in the region.

Leh – Nubra – Khardung La – Treaty Road

In the world’s coldest desert, make an early start to the valley of flowers, Nubra, crossing one of the world’s highest motorable roads, Khardung La at 18,380 ft. Enjoy the beautiful 5 – 6 hour drive, and as you descend, behold the beautiful valley in all its hues. See Treaty Road, the famous ancient caravan trade route to Central Asia, and Kashgar and Yarkand in China.

Enjoy the sight of double humped Bactrian camels riding the dunes. Spend the night in an exquisite room at the Desert Himalaya Resort.

Leh – Pangong Tso

Another full day of discovery lies ahead. After an early breakfast, leave for Pangong Lake about 150 kms away. The 7 – 8 hour drive takes you over the gorgeous Chang La, the second highest motorable road in the world located at an elevation of 17,388 ft. As you arrive at Pangong Lake, be prepared to be astounded by its beauty.

See the migratory Brahmani ducks, rare black-necked cranes and seagulls. Capture the lake in all its glory on your camera and watch the sun go down on this unforgettable night by the lakeside.

Fast Fact: Pangong Lake. The word ‘Pangong’ is a derivative of the Tibetan word, Banggong Co meaning ‘long, narrow, enchanted lake’. And so it is. Situated at an altitude of 14,000 ft. above sea level, Pangong enthralls with brilliant colour variations – ranging from deep blue to turquoise to azure and looks iridescent in the bright sunlight. So soak in the magic, enjoy its beauty as you cycle around on a mountain bike or take a dip in its cool waters. As the lake is close to the Indo-China international border, tourists are only allowed up to Spangmik village until dusk. Pangong Tso is being considered for inclusion in Ramsar Convention for the conservation of wetlands.

Pangong Tso – Leh – Tsemo Monastery – Shanti Stupa –Leh

Wake up to the sun’s rays on the roof of the world, and get set for breakfast by the lakeside. Soak in the mesmerising Ladakhi landscapes on the leisurely drive back to Leh. Enjoy a delicious lunch of Indian and international delicacies at The Grand Dragon Ladakh.

In the evening, set out to Tsemo Monastery, from where you enjoy a bird’s eye view of Leh. Witness the serene beauty of the sunset at Shanti Stupa before you return to the hotel. Arrive. Acclimatise. Unwind in Leh

Get ready for a holiday far above the ordinary. It’s winter in Ladakh, so it’s freezing as you touch down at 11,500 ft. above sea level. But our representative offers you a warm welcome and transfers you in style to The Grand Dragon Ladakh.
Enjoy a traditional welcome. Hot tea, coffee and breakfast are ready and waiting. After a quick check in, get escorted to your Deluxe Double room with its spectacular view of the Stok Kangri peak.

Later, relax at the roof top restaurant as you discuss plans with your tour manager. And take a stroll around Leh to begin your explorations and get acclimatised to the high altitude air.

FAST FACT: The Kushuk Bakula Rinpoche terminal in Leh, at an impressive 10,682 ft. above sea level, is among the highest airports in the world. It is named after the 19th Kushuk Bakula Rinpoche, one of the best-known lamas of Ladakh, a renowned statesman and international diplomat.

Leh – Spituk – Leh – Shanti Stupa

Make a great start with a delicious spread of traditional and continental dishes for breakfast. Then head just 8 kms out from the centre of town to the Spituk Monastery and find yourself transported to another world altogether in this amazing 11th Century centre of religion, art, culture and mystique.

And if you’re in time for the legendary Spituk Gustor Festival, join the celebrations of ‘the victory of the black hat dancers over evil’, and enjoy colourful cham dances by Buddhist lamas wearing elaborate masks!

Return to The Grand Dragon Ladakh for lunch. In the evening, set out to witness the serene beauty of the sunset at Shanti Stupa and return to the hotel to relax. Dine on the Stok View Terrace with drinks and finger licking food by the warmth of a bonfire.

FAST FACT: Spituk Monastery is an ancient centre of learning with a rich history of belonging to both, the Kadampa School and Gayluk Pa orders of Buddhism. With its prized collection of ancient masks, antique arms and fine Thangkhas, it remains a fascinating destination even today. But it is during the Spituk Gustor festival that thousands of people, both, Ladakhis from all across the plateau as well as global tourists throng to see the masked cham dance – a battle of good over evil enacted by Buddhist lamas, witness the annual unveiling of the terrifying face of Vajrabhairava, and receive the blessing of the deities.

Shanti Stupa was inaugurated by Dalai Lama in 1985 and completed in 1991 by the Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura. A repository of the relics of the Buddha was established for world peace.

Day 3

Leh – Chilling – Alchi – Lamayuru – Leh

A crack of dawn, brace yourself for some adventure. Start for the day trip to Chilling, the age-old centre of metal craftsmanship in Ladakh, as well as the modern day starting point of the well-known Chadar trek. See the base camp on the frozen river, Zanskar and soak in the beauty all around while sipping a hot tea or coffee. Then it’s onwards to Ladakh’s oldest monastery in Alchi where you will enjoy a traditional Ladakhi lunch.

On the scenic afternoon drive back, you will see the moonscapes of Lamayuru before you return to The Grand Dragon Ladakh. Relax for a while. Let the steam and sauna rid your body of its exhaustion before you tuck in to a delicious dinner and call it a night.

FAST FACT: Chilling. An exciting drive from Leh along the river Indus past village Nimmu – the confluence of the rivers Indus and the Zanskar- lies the village of Chilling, famous for its metal works in brass, copper, silver, iron and tin.

Alchi Monastery. A monastic complex dating back to the 10th Century, famed for its gigantic clay statues of Buddha, and a painted ceiling of stupa from the 12th/13th Century.

​​Lamayuru Monastery. One of the largest and oldest monasteries in Ladakh, Lamayuru is home to 150 resident monks, and hosts two annual masked dance festivals in the Tibetan lunar calendar, when all the monks from surrounding monasteries gather here to pray.

Leh – Thiksey –Chemrey – Hemis – The Oracle – Leh

Wake up to a perky cup of tea or coffee and make an early start to join the mystical Morning Prayer session at Thiksey monastery. Be mesmerised by the sound of hundreds of young and old lamas chanting together to the haunting sound of their singing bowls. Afterwards, visit a local home nearby for a delicious Ladakhi breakfast.

Then it’s on to the 17th Century Chemrey monastery and the most significant monastery in the region at Hemis. On the way back, make an unlikely stop to meet the Oracle and discover what the future foretells. End the day with a warm and comforting dinner by the bonfire.

FAST FACT: Thiksey Monastery. The largest monastery in central Ladakh district, Thiksey is famed for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet and amazing views of the many picturesque villages it overlooks all around.

Chemrey Monastery. An age old centre of Buddhist knowledge of literature, philosophy, paintings, wood carving, medicine, sculpture and mandala constructions, Chemrey is best known today for its awe inspiring scriptures in silver and golden and 18 foot statue.

Hemis Monastery. The largest and the most important of all monasteries in Ladakh, this Tibetan Buddhist monastery was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal. The annual Hemis festival in early June is a landmark event in the Ladakhi calendar.

The Oracle, the master or mistress of the mystic is considered the spiritual healer and the diviner of the future. Highly regarded in Ladakhi society, the Lha Pa or Lha Mo as they are called draw from the syncretic cultures of Central Asia, China, Tibet, and Mongolia but are mostly are Tibetan Buddhists these days.

  • Within 60 days of arrival, 75% refundable of the total booking amount.

No show/Early departure policy
  • In case of a no show, 25% of the total amount will be refunded
